PwC Germany and epilot agree on partnership

Cologne, 04.12.2020. PwC, Germany’s leading auditing and consulting firm, and epilot, one of the leading SaaS cloud providers for the energy industry, will be going their separate ways in the future: PwC Germany will become epilot’s official consulting and implementation partner. epilot provides the eCommerce cloud environment for the comprehensive digitization of sales and network, while PwC offers strategic guidance as well as support for the implementation of the solution.

“epilot is driving the topic of customer experience in the energy market at more than 75 utilities and network operators and has unleashed great momentum this year. In addition, the company thinks in a very customer-centric way and is close to current market developments with its solutions. This is a very good prerequisite for the digital transformation of utilities,” says Philipp Schmidt, Partner at PwC Germany in the Digital Utilities practice.

“However, providing our leading eCommerce cloud environment alone will not be sufficient in most cases, but must be accompanied in parallel by a clear digitization strategy, process redesign and cultural transformation. This is where I see PwC Germany in an enormously strong position, so that together we can optimally support energy suppliers and network operators in their digital transformation across all the necessary strands of action,” says Michel Nicolai, founder & CEO of epilot.

The cloud solution from epilot makes it possible to combine the marketing, control and settlement of all energy services and products in fully digitalized end-to-end processes. With a 360° view of the customer, he or she becomes the focus of all activities and is presented with customized offers in the associated customer portal. The Cologne-based company is also breaking new ground when it comes to bundling products: Products from the (non-)commodity or grid area can be combined – for example, the charging station for electric vehicles with a battery storage unit, the right flat rate tariff and more.

Seamless ecosystem of best-in-class solutions
Architecturally, epilot is also a step ahead of others: The cloud solution built on microservices follows an API-driven ecosystem approach. “epilot focuses on the value-adding processes directly at the customer interface – with cross-selling logics, eCommerce via PayPal & Co. as well as our Pricing Hub, we bring the value drivers to the front of the business. The relevant back-end processes, such as billing, are mapped via best-in-class solutions from our ecosystem partners. This creates process consistency that makes utilities faster, more efficient and more customer-focused,” says Michel Nicolai. The implementation of epilot is therefore the ideal starting point for a modern system architecture for utilities – especially for smaller and medium-sized houses.

Complete package for utilities
Some utilities lack a clear strategic direction to successfully push their products into the market. This partnership addresses precisely this point: epilot provides the digital solution, while PwC Germany provides the corresponding strategic support, e.g. to transform product management or initiate marketing campaigns. The collaboration between the new partners stems from PwC Germany’s Scale Energy program. In the program, PwC Germany scouted scale-ups in the energy sector across Europe and selected epilot as part of a hand-picked group of eight scale-ups and networked internationally with PwC partners, top decision-makers in the energy sector and leading investors.
